Pair of Gilchrist & Son Carriage Lamps

Matching pair of antique carriage lamps by English maker Gilchrist & Son, Lancaster who manufactured carriage lamps and coach fittings. This pair date from between 1880 and 1920.

These would have been fitted to higher-end carriage and are therefore well made and tough as nails! A true piece of Northern English history.

In pretty outstanding condition complete with original branded burners, patina, minor wear and natural signs of ageing. Beautiful red reflectors which catch the light wonderfully Candles can be changed. I believe the glass panels are still original.

Using wall brackets, these would look incredible mounted either side of a front door, in a reading room/ snug or library. Incredible collectors item for those interested in English antiques, Victorian vehicles and restoration. Antique architectural salvage.

They would also be incredible wired with electric and used as lamps.

One minor crack to one of the oval glass panels at the front. Please look at all pictures in detail.

These are a lovely pair & I can’t wait for them to find the perfect home.
